First of all, he considers himself an elf.
He greatly appreciates his culture and is offended if someone do not respect it. The axes are an Orc family relic, and as elve he have to value his roots and customs, not like that savage of Doreen, she doesn’t even know anything about her ancestors! (at least Gamelin is nice).
